Population mobility is the movement of people from one area to another. One of the factors that affect a large or small population mobility is a means of transport.
Type of mobility:
1. geographic mobility, is the movement of people to a place to settle or temporary. Example: urbanization, commuter.
2. horizontal mobility, is the movement of people from one livelihood to a livelihood. Example: a farmer who became a fisherman.
3. vertical mobility, is the transfer of a person's status is higher or lower. For example, an employee becomes a director of the company.
Types of mobility
1. Migration is the movement of people in order to settle from one place to another through the administrative boundaries (internal migration) or political boundaries / countries (international migration). In other words, migration is defined as a relatively permanent movement from one region (country) to the (state) else.
2. Transmigration, is the movement of people from one region to other regions in the country with the aim of settling. Indonesia's transmigration is regulated by the government through law No. 3 1972. Resettlement purposes:
- Equitable distribution of the population
- Improving standards of living
- Equitable development
- Equitable use of natural resources
- Enhance national unity.
3. Urbanization, is the movement of people from rural to urban areas with the aim of settling. The factors that drive urbanization:
- Fewer jobs
- Narrowing of agricultural land
- Pay a little work
- Lack of educational facilities.
Factors that attract urbanization:
- A lot of jobs
- Large wage
- Many living facilities
- The fulfillment of educational and recreational facilities.
